How do I open a Private or Incognito window in my web browser?

Some issues that patrons encounter when accessing electronic resources in the Library catalog, such as failed login attempts or an inability to access electronic resources, can be resolved by clearing browser cookies and cache. However, doing so can also sign users out of other websites such as social media platforms, news outlets, and more. Using a Private or Incognito window creates a temporary web browsing environment without any existing data from cookies or cache, which can be a useful step in troubleshooting access to Library electronic resources.

Use the following links to access instructions for opening a Private or Incognito window in your specific web browser.

Mac Laptop or Desktop

Windows Laptop or Desktop

iPhone or iPad

Android Phone or Tablet

Private or Incognito windows do not make you anonymous on the internet. They simply create a clean browsing environment with no pre-existing information such as website login credentials and other stored data, and any information generated in a Private or Incognito browsing window is deleted when the window is closed.
